Welcome to Centre of Excellence in Alternative Care

The Centre of Excellence in Alternative Care is an NGO committed to supporting the development of good quality alternative care for children in India.

Alternative care is care provided for children who are unable to live with their biological parents, and includes kinship care, foster care, residential care, supervised independent living arrangements and other forms of family-like care e.g. kafalah.

Our vision as an organisation is to bridge the existing gaps between regulation, policy and practice in India, working closely with our vision partners to learn from research and best practice internationally.

We strongly uphold the child’s basic right to family life (UNCRC 1989) and support efforts to deinstitutionalise care for children in India.

We work closely with a range of stakeholders including national and state government, NGOs and other community services, and are committed to seeing the child’s voice represented in any services developed.
